MOST LOVED | WHISK UNTIL SWEET

Happy hump day! It’s time to show some appreciation to one of our most loved vendors. Meet the #GirlBoss behind Whisk Until Sweet, Heather! She's a native Texan with a major sweet tooth! Heather's style is modern, simple, and elegant. All of her beautiful cakes feature fresh and tasty flavors. The intricacies in the flavors are so delightful they forever leave a remembered taste in your mouth!

1. Five words or a five word sentence that would describe you or your company best?

Edgy, Refined, Creative, Whimsical, Rustic.

2. What was the inspiration behind the name "Whisk until Sweet"? So catchy!

The name "Whisk until Sweet" was inspired by a simple line in a cookbook. I knew I wanted my company name to be simple but to the effect of whisk, stir, mix, etc. So when I saw it, it was perfect!

3. What fueled your passion towards entrepreneurship?

I was working in the marking industry prior to Whisk until Sweet. That environment didn't allow me to be creative and I felt that I was always stepping on others toes. It was a very dictated industry. That's when I saved my money, attended culinary school in Canada, and started Whisk until Sweet in 2011 by myself. Fast forward 5 years... I enjoy being my own boss! It's very fulfilling and flexible. Being my own boss is also pretty cool. I can be creative without stepping on others toes and enjoy what I do, I love it!

4. What was or has been your favorite project thus far?

I did a photo shoot with Grit + Gold at Brik in Fort Wort. I love it because it was rustic, free reign, and actually focused on the cake; which is a rare occasion. Being creative and given free reign of what I wanted to do as a #CakeBoss really paid off, allowing me to really show who I am. Hard work pays off!

5. What would be your dream project or client, if you had the choice?

Wow! That's a hard one... I would definitely choose my Grandma. She instilled the love of baking in me! She passed when I was 10 years old. She was a cookie girl! I would bake her either snicker doodle or chocolate chip cookies. Not only was my Grandma amazing but so was her baking.

6. What is the next big step for Whisk until Sweet?

First and foremost, I am so thankful for my 1st year being completely booked! I'm just going with the flow for now. One long term goal would be to have a shop in Dallas, but maybe not until the next five years.

7. What would be your advice for anyone interested in becoming their own boss?

My best advice would be to stick to a routine. It sounds simple but it really isn't. When it's only you, it's much harder making a living. Five business goals and two personal goals a day helps keep me focused. Goals in which of what needs to happen. I also would suggest finding a community or professional group of friends. My profession and working for myself can sometimes be isolating. Any outlet is refreshing!

Thanks so much for telling us your story Heather! We're so incredibly excited to be working with Heather again for our wedding this weekend!

MOST LOVED | MASTERS OF CEREMONY ENTERTAINMENT

Happy Wednesday!

Entertainment for your wedding is a must and a crucial part to making your magic night even more memorable which is why we are introducing you to Sean Lee of Masters of Ceremony Entertainment & Lighting today! Not only does he provide some awesome tunes to get your guests out of their seats and onto their feet but he has more than 25 years of experience in the industry and is based in the DFW area! We recently teamed up with him for our couple, Celina + James, wedding! Check out what he has to say!

What are 5 words (or a 5 word sentence) that would describe your services the best?

Interactive, organized, personalized, unique & memorable

How long have you been DJ/Emcee-ing? What got you into the game?

27 years I started as a DJ when I was 15 in 1988. I was in the drumline in school which makes me a music lover. Becoming a DJ was a no brainer!

What’s your advice for the couple who’s number one priority is having a fun wedding?

Choose wisely! There are tons of DJs out there in the market and it is their job to find the right match for what they want and for their personalities. For a wedding, finding a professional MC that is a good DJ is more important than finding an amazing DJ that knows how to make announcements. A true MC that involves all of the guests in the fun is what will make a wedding fun and not just music.

Spill your favorite wedding jam!

My personal favorite (since I'm originally from Southern California) is This I How We Do It by Montel Jordan. The band nerd in me still loves slipping in something from Grease though!

You haven’t been in Texas long! What’s your favorite Dallas hangout so far?

Well...this question made me feel old! I don't really "hang out" anywhere. I'm a husband and a father and I serve at church. There really isn't a whole lot of time after all of that and doing weddings and events on the weekends to hang out. I love to eat, so I'll just give you my favorite place to eat since moving to Texas. I love Hutchin's BBQ in McKinney!

NON-TRADITIONAL DFW WEDDING VENUES

NON-TRADITIONAL DFW WEDDING VENUES

Happy Wednesday! If you are one of those couples that are looking to have a ceremony somewhere that is a little out of the box and are having some trouble finding a venue, we hope this helps spark some ideas!

If you are in the DFW area, there are many unique places to have your wedding but to start, you have to think about what the venue would mean to you.

1. Is there a place that holds a certain significance for you as a couple?

For example, the spot where you first met, had your first kiss, exchanged your first "I love you" or a spot simply spent a lot of time. Reflect on that location. Is it your alma matter? A spot by White Rock Lake or Katy Trail? Was it on a hike through Grapevine Lake or in a field somewhere?

2. Is there a certain hobby you share that could involve a potential venue?

We recently coordinated a wedding at House of Blues, a venue that celebrated their love for music, and it turned out to be an incredibly beautiful and unique wedding(read all about it here!!).  Some other hobby-related venues could include: a baseball stadium, golf course, library, a race track, campground, a museum or art gallery, a brewery, a coffee house, an amusement park, or perhaps a comic book store?

3. If you are looking for an outdoor location but something that is not your typical Fort Worth Botanical Garden or Dallas Arboretum, try a historical site.

The DFW area has a long list of interesting historical buildings, museums, and parks that provide the perfect scenic backdrop for your ceremony.

Now that we got you thinking, here are three examples of wedding venues around Dallas that coincide with some venues previously suggested.
