MOST LOVED | MAKEUP ARTIST ERIKA CURRY

Happy Wednesday! We have a special treat on the blog today- an interview with Erika Curry, a fabulous make-up artist that we have worked with throughout the past year!

This girl is an incredible talent and an immensely kind person. We love recommending her to our brides because we know she knocks it out of the park every single time!

Roll the questions!

1. What are five words (or a 5 word sentence) that would describe you and/or your company the best?

Personable, agreeable, open minded, relaxed and HAPPY (that was harder than I thought and my 12 year old helped me!)

2. How’d you get into makeup artistry?

I have always, always loved makeup. As a kid (maybe 9 or 10) I would take pictures from magazines if they had a closeup of a woman's face, cut the picture in half, glue it on a piece of paper and to try to replicate her makeup on my own using my moms makeup or colored pencils. I was always the girl who did friends makeup throughout high school and college. I just never realized it could be a career until I met a sweet friend who worked for MAC. He encouraged me and told me I was actually good. I took any "work" I could get for free and practiced a lot on anyone who would let me.

3. How should a bride decide what look she wants?

For my brides, I suggest looking at pictures of other brides. Real girls, not models or Pinterest pictures. So many times I think women think a model is pretty but don't always consider how the makeup would look on them. I encourage brides to stay within their comfort zone. If you never wear makeup, your wedding isn't the day to rock a smokey eye. I say, look like YOU on your best day ever!

4. Have any tips for keeping the “getting ready” process stress-free on the wedding day?

On the day of your wedding, give yourself plenty of time! Assume everything will take longer than you think. There is nothing worse than being rushed. And if you get done early, bonus! Also, for hair and makeup, have a trial. Maybe two. So you and your makeup artist and hair dresser are on the same page. I love walking in and knowing exactly what my bride wants!

5. What's your favorite local hangout?

My husband has been going to a dive bar called the "Dallasite" forever. We know everyone there and it's just easy. It's inevitable when we go out that we will end up there!

Our couple, Nina + Rory, had these incredibly hilarious balloons from Fair Goods at their rehearsal dinner and they have been on our brains ever since and a quirky shoot was the perfect excuse to buy some!

We teamed up with some of our favorite friends and some fresh faces and had some serious fun with this one! Of course, your #girlgang at Celebrate Colorfully rocked the florals +styling. lovely Savannah Pyron was behind the camera. The Ms. BA Beauty, Becca, did hair and makeup and our new friend Stephanie, from Ellie and Ace, blew us away with her mad calligraphy + paper skills. And, of course, we couldn't have done it without our adorable models, Rachel + Andrew, who just got engaged last month!

We really did have such a blast putting this together! Enjoy the spread and have a wonderfully cheesy Valentine's! <3

HOW TO | WRITE YOUR WEDDING CEREMONY

HOW TO | WRITE YOUR WEDDING CEREMONY

We all know that planning a wedding includes a ton of decisions to make and a lot of those take place during the writing of your ceremony! Stress not, we have 3 steps to writing your own ceremony!

Step One:

Narrow your interests. Grab a pen and a note-pad and create a "Needs" versus "Wants" list and keep some of the following questions in mind.

What would you like your ceremony to reflect? Would you like a long or short ceremony? Traditional? Non-traditional? A little of both? Will you have any religious components? Are they by choice or are your parents desiring that they be included? Do you want your ceremony to reflect the love built between you two or the love and support of the people that surrounds you?

Step Two:

After deciding the components you will add to your ceremony, create the order in which they will proceed. A traditional order can be seen below:

  • Welcome: This includes a quick welcome, any reminders and a thank you to the guests!

  • Address: Your officient will typically share a story, message or a sermon. Once that reading is finished, the officiant can welcome anyone else that might share some words, sing, read a poem, etc.

  • The Expression of Intent: A.K.A. the only legally mandated part of your ceremony! This is that infamous question asked to you and your partner that is followed by an "I do!".

  • Vows: This is one of the most versatile parts of the ceremony. Worried about not remembering what your carefully-crafter words are? Read them off of a page or have the officiant read them for you to repeat. More interested in memorizing your vows? Do it! Don't want to create your own vows? Keep it traditional! There is no right or wrong way!

  • The Ceremony of the Rings + Ring Vows: The officiant will typically say a few words on the significance of the rings and then the exchange of rings and ring vows will follow. The ring vows are typically repeated after the officiant so no memorization needed here!

  • The Final Step: I NOW PRONOUNCE YOU HUSBAND + WIFE. YOU MAY KISS THE BRIDE!

Step Three:

Enjoy the wedding planning stage! Don't let the stress overwhelm you! Remember this is your wedding and it should radiate nothing else than the two of YOU!
